Start Your Fall Off Right With A Fresh Battery! | Bennington, VT

As we head into the chillier Fall and Winter months, one of the most critical vehicle maintenance concerns to avoid is a dead or faulty battery. Fortunately, Bennington Chevrolet has created a comprehensive DIY Battery Replacement guide to help you ensure your vehicle is equipped with a brand-new battery for the challenging road conditions ahead. You can find this guide below. If you prefer not to handle vehicle maintenance yourself due to concerns about causing damage or if you simply lack the time in your busy schedule, our expert service team is more than willing to take care of the job for you. Don't hesitate to schedule a service appointment at Bennington Chevrolet today! Bennington Chevrolet’s Guide To Changing Your Battery: First, make sure your vehicle is in park with the engine turned off. Next pop open the hood and locate the battery. If you were previously driving the vehicle, be sure to give your vehicle enough time to cool down before working on anything under the hood. Then, detach the negative cable (black) from the battery. Loosen the nut with a wrench, twist the end of the cable with your hand and pull the cable away from the battery terminal. Repeat with the positive cable (red). Next unclamp the battery hold-down clamp from the battery– you may need to use a wrench or a socket and ratchet. Once the clamp is off, remove the battery from the holding tray. Be aware that while compact, batteries are heavy, so lift with your legs! Clean the holding tray, cables, and nuts/ bolts of dirt, debris, and buildup using a battery cleaning solution. You want to use an anti-corrosive cleaning solution and you want to pay extra attention to any spots with corrosion, this could cause problems down the road if not addressed. After cleaning, be sure the parts are completely dry before inserting the new battery. Insert the new battery and secureit in place with the hold-down clamp. Apply an anti-corrosive solution to both terminal ends. Once this is completed, attach the positive battery cable first and then the negative cable. Make sure you tighten both terminals to ensure you have a tight and secure connection. Check the security of the battery, your battery should not be able to wiggle or move once inside the holding tray. If your battery is able to move, tighten the clamp and be sure the cables are tight and secure, as well. Before closing up, try starting your vehicle to ensure that everything is working properly. Then you should be good to go!

Bennington Chevrolet’s Fuel Efficiency Tips! | Bennington, VT

Inflation has led to an increase in prices across various sectors, and fuel costs are no different. Considering daily commutes, school drop-offs, and upcoming late-summer journeys, we understand the essential nature of gasoline. Thus, we invite you to carefully consider the suggestions provided below. If you're interested in driving a Chevrolet model with better fuel efficiency, take the opportunity to explore Bennington Chevrolet's new inventory through our user-friendly online platform today! Bennington Chevrolet’s Fuel Saving Tips: Keep Track Of Your Mileage Knowing what mileage you're getting in real time compared to what you got last time you were out and about. Most newer vehicles have this function and allow you to view it in your virtual cockpit and you can compare your driving performance to the EPA estimated MPG. Try And Avoid Unnecessary Braking Be aware of your surroundings and diligently obey speed limits. This will help keep you from having to brake quickly to avoid obstacles and will hopefully keep you in rhythm with the rest of traffic so you won’t have to speed up or slow down too often. Drive Using Momentum When you're headed uphill, it takes a lot more effort to maintain speed than it does going down, so give the car a break and let yourself lose a few mph on the way up.  Your car burns the most gas when it's forced into high-load situations, so give it a break if you can. Map Out Your Route Beforehand Take the path with fewer stoplights, not as much traffic and, yes, lower speed limits. Even if you save 0.1 gallons of gas each day, you'll save more than over a hundred dollars per year! Drive “Around” Rush Hour Most office buildings let out around the same hours on week days and we know you can’t just sit there till the roads are clear. Well, try alternate routes. It might add a few minutes to your commute but will save you more gas than having to deal with stop-and-go traffic!

Allergy-Proof Your Ride With These Tips From Bennington Chevy | Bennington, VT

Spring has sprung and April showers bring May flowers… and tons and tons of pollen. If your nose has been running and your eyes have been watering you may be desperate for an Oasis away from all the Springtime allergens. Well, don’t worry! Bennington Chevy has got your back! Listed below are our tips for allergy-proofing your vehicle! If you’re lacking the time or tools to try out these tips for yourself, schedule a service appointment with the Chevy service team and leave it to the professionals! Bennington Chevy Tips For Allergy-Proofing Your Ride: Clean It (Inside & Out) Getting in and out of your vehicle means it’s near impossible not to accumulate dirt, grime, and dust that’ll make your allergies worse over the course of the season. We recommend starting by wiping down your dashboard, seating, and vents as often as possible with a damp microfiber cloth and a solution with no irritants/ harsh chemicals. Next, vacuum your carpeting and be sure to clean and let your floor mats dry completely. Also, be sure to frequently stop by the car wash to clean off the exterior of your vehicle. Contain It Oftentimes your clothing and shoes are the way allergens make their way into your vehicle. While we can’t avoid this completely, it’s a smart idea to remove the articles of clothing that have come in contact with those allergens if possible. Try storing them in a separate area and keep them confined. Using a plastic bin in your trunk can work great for this. Be sure to keep your windows closed during peak pollen times to keep allergens out. And go the extra mile to ensure that your weather stripping in intact and every window/ door shuts properly so allergens can’t creep in. Replace It If you can’t remember the last time you changed your air filters, the perfect time is now. It’s also a good idea to have them checked at the end of the pollen season to ensure they are still in proper condition and that they have not deteriorated over the season. All-weather floor mats are a great way to cut back on the number of allergens that make your carpeting their home and consider investing in some good seat covers. Lastly, stay away from air fresheners or cleaners that have harsh chemicals that could cause nasal irritation.

Use Your Spare Change To Check Your Tire Treads! | Bennington, VT

Can you remember the last time you changed out your tires? Or even checked your treads? Well spring is right around the corner and that means rainy roads, dramatic temperature changes, and all sorts of other hazardous road conditions. If your tire’s treads are worse for wear, then you’re driving with little to no grip! To keep you safe on the road ahead, Bennington Chevy has put together three easy ways of checking your tread depth using spare change! Check out our tips below and be sure to schedule your service appointment for your tire change at Bennington Chevy today! Bennington Chevy's Tire Tread Tips: The Penny Test: Insert a penny into the tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing upside down and toward you. Once the penny is inserted, if you can see the entire head, your tread depth is less than 2/32” and that means your tire is too bald and unsafe to drive on. The Quarter Test: Just like with the penny test, place the quarter upside down into the tread groove with Washington’s head facing toward you. If the tread reaches Washington’s head, you have at least 4/32” of tread remaining, meaning your tire is still in good shape! Tread Wear Indicator Don’t have any coins laying around? Take a look at your tread wear indicator bar that is molded onto the tread of your tires. These bars are found at the bottom of the tread grooves in multiple spots. When these bars are visibly flush with the adjacent ribs, your tire has no more than 2/32” of tread left. This is a visible indication that you need new tires for your vehicle!

Are Your Wipers Wiped Out? | Bennington, VT

When people think of vehicle maintenance, most tend to get anxious and picture the tangle of mechanisms under the hood. But, what if we told you that one of the biggest pieces of equipment that you need to keep an eye on when it comes to your ride is your windshield wipers? Not so intimidating now is it? While easily replaced, wipers are essential to your everyday drive, so to help stay on top or your car care we’ve compiled a list of warning signs your wipers may be wiped out and some tips on how to improve their longevity! Take a look at our tips below, and if your ride is in need of some more serious maintenance, be sure to schedule your service appointment at the Bennington Chevy Service Center today! Warning signs that indicate it’s time to replace those wipers! Streaking occurs when the rubber squeegee dries, hardens and cracks. It can also be caused by tree sap, road tar and other foreign substances collected on either the glass or the blade. Skipping occurs when the blade develops a curvature from lack of use (e.g. left in the ‘parked position’ for an extended length of time). Wearing occurs with extensive use and is when the rubber edges are rounded instead of squared. Splitting is caused when the sun’s ultraviolet rays penetrate the rubber squeegee, causing it to break down and separate from the frame. Bent Refill Vertebra and Bent Frames cause inconsistent contact with the glass surface, creating streaking or skipping. Some tips for making sure your wipers stay in great shape! Clean your windshield every time you fill your gas tank. Gently wipe the rubber squeegee with a damp paper towel to remove any loose dirt or oil. Never use your windshield wipers to de-ice your windshield. Instead, either use an ice scraper or use your defroster to melt snow and ice. Pull your wiper blades away from the windshield during winter months to prevent ice build up on the rubber squeegee and to prevent them from sticking to the windshield.
